Natural England : England Coast Path - Update

Much of this new National Trail around all of England’s coast has been completed or is well underway. However, the stretch between Bridlington and Easington is problematic.

The Holderness Coast section of the ECP presents a challenging environment to create a National Trail standard path due to the area’s high rate of coastal erosion. There requires a scheme of small culverts and footbridges to be installed across the drains and waterways which cross the England Coast Path’s route to make it walkable to a National Trail standard.

A grant from DEFRA will be required to fund these works. It is expected that 20 crossings need to be installed by ERYC in 2023. The work undertaken on the route is secured using ERYC’s procurement process by local construction firms who bid for the contracts. These vary in width, design and their distance set back form the cliff edge based on the erosion rate in that specific area they are in. This is presently being drawn up by ERYC and landowners will be contacted in early 2023 to discuss the access and construction of these by ERYC’s contractors.

Near Miss Accidents and Speeding

There is increasing public concern about car parking at various points throughout the village. The ERYC Highways Department does not perceive this to be a problem as there is no history of any incidents or accidents occurring. It is important therefore that any minor bump or scrape to vehicles, or, a near miss is reported to the Highways Authority. Contact:  Email: highway.dm@eastriding.gov.uk

You should report incidents of any perceived speeding or other anti-social driving behaviour to the local police service using the 101 non-emergency number
